Rotary Roundup: Clarendon County Disabilities and Special Needs Board update and forum time change

Posted

The Manning Rotary Club held its weekly meeting at noon on Wednesday, September 18th, 2024, at Porter Jack’s in Manning. This week’s guest speaker was Ryan Way, Executive Director of the Clarendon County Disabilities and Special Needs Board (CCDSNB). Way provided insight into the history and services offered by the board, which was originally chartered in 1977 as Clarendon County Mental Retardation, Inc. Starting as an adult day care, the board has since expanded its services to include 11 residential homes, an Adult Day Program, and Case Management services, assisting individuals and families dealing with intellectual disabilities, related disabilities, head injuries, and spinal cord injuries.

Way highlighted CCDSNB’s commitment to providing personalized care, whether through residential programs or day services designed to help individuals with disabilities pursue their life goals. He emphasized the important role case managers play in connecting families with resources and advocating for the needs of those they serve.

Way also shared how the CCDSNB’s residential services provide a continuum of care in a homelike setting, where individuals receive personal care, skills training, and supervision tailored to their unique needs. With over 40 years of service, the board remains dedicated to helping individuals in Clarendon County lead more independent and fulfilling lives, ensuring that support extends beyond basic care to promote personal growth and community involvement.

In other club news, members were informed of a time change for the upcoming Clarendon County School Board Candidate Forum. Originally scheduled for 6 p.m. on October 10th, the forum will now begin at 7 p.m. to avoid a conflict with the Harvin Clarendon Library Ruby Jubilee event. Both events will take place on Brooks Street, providing a convenient opportunity for community members to attend both.

The Manning Rotary Club invites all residents to attend and take advantage of this evening of community engagement.
