Ronald Edgar DuBose, 86, died Monday, Feb. 13, 2017, at Carolinas Hospital System in Florence.
Born Aug. 17, 1930, in Clarendon County, he was the son of the late John and Edna Buddin DuBose. He attended Salem High School and was a U.S. Army Veteran serving from 1951-53 during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of New Zion United Methodist Church and retired from farming and construction.

William Burgess “Will” Harvin, 92, husband of Patricia Mack Pinkerton Harvin, died Thursday, Jan. 12, 2017, at McLeod Health Clarendon.
Born June 16, 1924, in Manning, he was a son of the late Stewart Ingram Harvin and Leila Burgess Harvin. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, serving aboard the USS Oberrender, which was sunk by a Japanese Kamikaze. Scott Laverne “Pete” Duke, 87, husband of Willadean Brunson Duke, died Friday, Dec. 23, 2016, at his home.
Born June 27, 1929, in Manning, he was a son of the late David Presley Duke and Teresa Evans Duke. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War, a member of the American Legion, and a member of the Steering Committee at Laurence Manning Academy. Anne Wheeler Johnson, 85, widow of William Seth Johnson, died Friday, Dec. 16, 2016, at National Health Care in Sumter.
Born March 29, 1931, in Sumter, she was a daughter of the late Samuel Mood Wheeler and Mariah Dinkins Wheeler. She was adopted and raised by her aunt and uncle, Bess and Clarence Wheeler. She was a retired secretary at Manning High School with many years of service, a charter member of Grace Christian Fellowship Church and a founding member of Virginia’s Pride Garden Club.

TURBEVILLE – Kylea Marie Floyd was born May 13, 2007, in Florence, to Craig and Cassie Floyd.

SUMTER – Raymond Allen Walker, 87, widower of Thelma Proctor Walker, died Wednesday, Dec. 14, 2016, at Lexington Medical Center in Lexington.
Born Sept. 26, 1929, in Clarendon County, he was a son of the late John Thomas Walker Sr. and Mamie Ward Walker. He was a graduate of Manning High School and Coyne Electrical School in Chicago. Mr. Walker was a member of St. Mark’s United Methodist Church. He was a U.S. Army combat veteran of the Korean War. He retired from the electrical field at DuPont after 41 years of service. Coach John Franklin Thames, 82, died Friday, November 18, 2016, at his home.
Born May 20, 1934, in Alcolu, he was a son of the late Charles Franklin Thames and Katherine Harvin Thames. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served as a tank platoon leader in 1958 and 1959 in Korea. He was a teacher and coach at Manning High School for more than 55 years, where he is best remembered as the Winningest Girls’ Basketball Coach in South Carolina history.
