Clarendon School District 2 Superintendent John Tindal said that the five District 2 schools will be out starting Wednesday per order of Gov. Nikki Haley.
“Whatever the governor says, we’re not going to go against it,” Tindal said. “We were making preparations for the high school to be a shelter later in the week. But we will do this earlier, since the governor has declared that.”
Parents had called The Manning Times to say they received text messages stating that school was still happening on Thursday.
“They didn’t get texts from Clarendon 2,” Tindal said, adamantly. “We haven’t sent anything out.”
A local teacher from Clarendon School District 2 sent a screenshot of a message sent from one of the district’s individual schools stating that school would remain open until they heard otherwise from Tindal. Tindal said such messages, however, were not sanctioned by the district office itself.
Haley canceled public schools in 22 counties, including Clarendon, in preparation for Hurricane Matthew, which is expected to hit the coastline as early as Friday morning.

I understand that a text was sent from an individual school. What Tindal was saying is that the district office itself sent no such notifications. I’m not exactly sure how the District decided to close after The Manning Times posted an announcement is valid, seeing as how we posted only what Gov. Haley ordered herself. The governor’s order to close school supercedes anything locally. I’m sorry if there was any confusion, but we did our best to report the news as it was given in the governor’s press conference.

Much ado about nothing–bottom line is the schools will be closed–ain’t that complicated–the real victim here is Columbus–he lost his holiday for a make-up day–This is not Mr. Tindal’s first day at work–he knows what he is doing–

Mr. Tindal is following Mrs. Haleys request. but Yes , we absolutely all received text stating “MPS Families: We are keeping a very close eye on the weather and we promise that you will know when any decisions are made regarding closures, etc.” at 3:26pm followed by another text “MPS Families: At this point, we DO have school tomorrow.

Sent via Remind.com” just after the first at 3:26pm.

shortly there after got confirmation schools would be closed. It was confusing for a moment.. In the earlier posts defense I called and was told school was still on as well as the text. So there was confusing information because it was on the live news feed as well as manning live but the school had not yet been on board at that particular time is what seems to have been the issue. All is well and weather was great today thankfully. Safe travels to all who have to !
