Summerton Police Chief: 'Knife-type' object used in Dollar General armed robbery

Posted
Summerton Police Chief Ray Perdue said two non-Clarendon County residents are in custody at the Clarendon County Detention Center Thursday night for the alleged armed robbery of the Dollar General in downtown Summerton. "A guy went in about 1 p.m. Thursday and attempted to rob the cashier," Perdue said. "The cashier sustained some injuries, but the suspect got no money." Perdue said warrants are still being finalized for the suspects, and that other suspects were also detained. He said the cashier sustained injury from "some type of bladed weapon," but authorities are unsure whether it was a box cutter or a knife. "He's OK," Perdue said. "He was treated on scene by EMS." The Clarendon County Sheriff's Office apprehended the suspect after a vehicle chase on Interstate 95. Perdue did not say whether the armed robbery is related to others in Clarendon and Sumter counties, about which the Sumter Sheriff's Office plans to hold a press conference 1 p.m. Friday.
