LAKE CITY -- James Ben Barron of Lake City has died.

Born Dec. 25, 1925, in Williamsburg County, "J.B." was a son of the late Mary Pinckney and Ben Barron. He lived in Fayetteville, N.C., where he served in the U.S. Air Force for 30 years, and retired as a staff sergeant on April 10, 1974. When his health began to fail, he relocated to Lake City to live with his niece, Mary Barron.

Survivors include his special niece, Mary Barron of Lake City; four sisters, Winnie Mae Harrison and Willie Dean (Frank) Brockington of Florida, Ressive (Laure) Lewis and Deaphine King of Virginia; two sisters-in-law, Pearlease Barron of Lake City and Mary G. Barron of Florida; and a number of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services for James Ben Barron were held Friday, Aug. 29, 2014, at Johns Tabernacle Holiness Church, 345 Godwin St. in Lake City, with the Rev. Ralph Singletary officiating. Burial followed in Florence National Cemetery.
