james patrick mimsJames Patrick Mims, 28, died Wednesday, July 24, 2014.

Born in Sumter, he was a son of Thomas Floyd Mims and Carol Coffey Mims. James was an avid Gamecock fan and loved playing sports for the Parks and Recreation Department and Bates Middle School. He will be remembered as a loving son, brother, uncle, grandson and friend.

Survivors besides his parents include a brother, the Rev. Brian Magaw and his wife, Amy, of Paxville; a nephew, Del Magaw of Paxville; a niece, Summer Magaw of Paxville; and his grandparents, Howard and Patricia Coffey of Manning.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Charles W. and Rebecca L. Mims, formerly of Oswego.

A graveside service for James Patrick Mims will be held 4 p.m. Sunday, July 27, 2014, in Evergreen Memorial Park cemetery, with the Rev. Brian Magaw officiating.

Doug Berry, Gary Berry, Jr., George Campbell, Jason Campbell, Archie McDaniel and Boyd Mims will serve as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends for two hours prior to services, from 2-4 p.m. Sunday at Bullock Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to United Ministries, P.O. Box 1017, Sumter, SC 29151-1017.

    Patrick was a very sweet young man that I thought a lot,my prayers are with his family at this tragic time.

    Patrick was a nice person who had a big heart. I remember seeing him about 3 weeks ago at mcdonalds and he was telling me how he was getting married and how happy he was. I’m so sorry for his family.
