SUMTER - Samuel Prince Jr., 66, husband of Cartear Jean Evans Prince, died Friday, May 23, 2014, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center in Sumter.

Born in New Zion, he was a son of Samuel Prince Sr. and the late Mary Lee Prince. He attended Walker-Gamble School in New Zion. He was a member of Mt. Sinai AME Church. He was employed at Georgia Pacific, Korn Industries and Walker Gamble Elementary School for more than 30 years.

Survivors besides his wife of the home and his father of Turbeville include a daughter, Geneva Evans of the home; a special friend, Paul McFadden Jr.; two brothers, Daniel (Ella) Prince of Gable and Lavern (Annette) Goodman of Sumter; three sisters, Shirley (Robert) Nero of Lynchburg and Diane (Larry) Graham and Kathleen (Dennis) Doctor, both of Florence; a father-in-law, Levi Evans Sr.; six sisters in law, Willie Mae Prince, Jettie Mae Prince, Janie Bell Prince, Sadie Evans, Mabel Evans and Ethleen Evans; three brothers-in-law, Elbert (Ella) Evans, Levi (Rachel) Evans Jr. and Lary (Linda) Evans.

Celebratory services for Samuel Prince Jr. were held Friday, May 30, 2014, at Mt. Sinai AME Church, 8985 Mt. Sinai Church Road in Lynchburg, with the Rev. Marie Deas-Webb, pastor, officiating, the Rev. Oliver Davis presiding and the Rev. Jerome McCray assisting. Burial followed in Edwards Cemetery in Lynchburg.

The family received friends at the home, 1027 Nathaniel St. in Sumter.

These services were entrusted to Samuels Funeral Home LLC of Manning.
