The Lighthouse Network

Clarendon County has a nonprofit foundation and community center, ready to help those in need and provide a meeting place for outreach groups. The Lighthouse Foundation of South Carolina is dedicated to developing and fostering the glow of our community and partners. A part of the larger foundation, The Lighthouse Network, the Lighthouse Foundation of SC would like to make those in the community aware of the community outreach programs they currently have, as well as those they have planned for the future.

Foundation leader, T. GeRome Tindal, explained the Lighthouse Foundation of South Carolina in the following interview:

“Our foundation’s mission is to reach rural areas of South Carolina through education and community service, and we have opened a center for excellence in Manning. Within the Center for excellence, we offer pretty much everything that our foundation offers. We conduct a lot of community service projects, we hold mentoring programs, and we host classes for the Lighthouse Theological Institute and Seminary. We’re a community-based center so if a community-based group requires someplace to meet, they can meet there as well. There are currently two organizations that do so monthly. We have a center director by the name of Anita Benbow who handles the scheduling for that.”

The community center is located at 8 East Keitt St. next to Hill Printing. The foundation is also opening two other locations, one in Dorchester County and the other in Richland County.

“A lot of people in our area support our nonprofit organization and the things that we do. During the holiday season this year, we did a Thanksgiving drive where we donated food items in addition to purchasing items like meats and things of that nature for families in the area. During this Christmas season, we have an Angel Tree, and we have people come in and pick up an angel to purchase the gifts listed for kids in the county.”

If you would like to purchase gifts for a child in need before Christmas, please visit the community center at 8 East Keitt St. and select an angel from the tree; a great way to give back this Christmas.

“In addition to the community outreach programs, we also focus on healthy habits. We are going to be conducting a Zumba class, as well as a line dancing class. Whenever you go to our Facebook page you can see several of the projects that we’ve done. We did a project with F.E. Dubose students during October for National Book Month, and we’re preparing now for another project with F.E. Dubose coming up in February, as we’re preparing for Heart Health Awareness. As a heart patient, I wanted to bring awareness to the important things you can do like checking your heart regularly and just doing things to keep your body moving and staying proactive.”
