A Summerton man has been arrested in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred two months ago in Dillon County, following a coordinated multi-agency investigation.

The Dillon County Sheriff’s Office announced that Monte Lee Armstrong, 63, was apprehended after a thorough investigation with assistance from the Florence County Sheriff’s Office, Clarendon County Sheriff’s Office, 4th Circuit Solicitor’s Office, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco,

Firearms and Explosives (ATF), and the Assistant United States Attorney’s Office.

Armstrong is accused of involvement in the shooting death of Quentin Standford Berry. On March 21, just before 10 p.m., deputies responded to a residence on Amherst Court, where they discovered Berry suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Berry succumbed to his injuries shortly afterward.

On Monday, authorities identified Armstrong as the suspect and obtained arrest warrants. He faces charges of possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime, possession of a weapon by a convicted felon, and murder.

Armstrong is currently being held at the Dillon County Detention Center, awaiting a bond hearing.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is urged to contact Detective Michael Barfield of the Dillon County Sheriff’s Office at 843-774-1432.
