ATTEMPTED MURDER

On May 31, officers with the Manning City Police were dispatched to the 300th block of Collins Dr. for gunshots heard.

While on the way, a gunshot victim call was dispatched. Officers diverted and went to the hospital. Once at the hospital, the victim was being assisted by hospital staff. Once officers were able to speak with the victim, he stated he heard something happened to his brother so he went looking for “KT”, suspect Kenthwan Conyers. The victim stated he found Conyers over near Collins Dr. and went to confront him, ready to fight. After a verbal altercation with Conyers, Conyers pulled his gun out and the victim attempted to run. The victim stated he was shot and fell to the ground. While lying on the ground, Conyers came up to him, stood over him and told him he was going to kill him. The victim asked Conyers not to do it. After this, Conyers got into a red two-door truck and left the area. He was then taken to the hospital. The victim had been shot in the lower back and was flown out to the hospital in Florence due to his injuries.  Officers then showed photo of Conyers and confirmed that was the person who shot him and he goes by “KT”. Officers arrived at the intersection of Collins Dr. at Skyview Dr. There, they observed multiple shell casings along with a puddle and trail of blood. Officers proceeded to block off the area using their patrol vehicles, along with crime scene tape. Once the scene was secure, officers used evidence markers to mark key evidence locations. They observed that there were four spent 9mm steel shell casings, one spent 9mm brass shell casing, and one unspent 9mm brass cartridge. They also observed that in the midst of the shell casings was a puddle of blood. From the puddle of blood was a trail of blood droplets into the yard of another home on Collins Dr.  Officers took photos of the scene along with individual crime scene markers and collected the evidence into individual boxes. The evidence was taken from the scene to the Manning Police Department and placed into evidence storage.

 

IMPROPER TAG

On May 28, an officer was patrolling Boyce St. when he observed two vans disregard the stop light at Boyce St. and Commerce St. The officer made contact with both drivers and observed one van was pulling the other. The first vehicle was a burgundy Chevy van bearing SC tag (WXK0703Z) and the second was a white Chevy van bearing SC Tag (UNY601), which came back to another vehicle.  The driver of the first vehicle was identified as George Frierson and the second was Montez Williams, 29. Frierson was given a warning for his violation of disregarding a stoplight. The officer was advised by dispatch that Williams was wanted by Probation, Parole & Pardon and had a suspended license.  Williams was arrested and transported to the Clarendon County Detention Center, where he was charged with a Probation Violation. Williams was given a warning for Driving Under Suspension. SC Tag (UNY601) was seized and taken to the Manning Police Dept.

 

DISCHARGING FIREARM WITHIN THE CITY LIMITS

On May 27, officers were dispatched to an active shooting at the 200th block of Dinkins St. Once officers arrived on scene, the suspect, Anthony Edwards, 21, was located and the weapon, a Mossberg 20 Gauge Bolt action shotgun, was secured.

When questioned, Edwards stated he was upset with his neighbors’ loud music and wanted it to stop. Edwards stated he came outside and shot into the ground with his gun. Edwards was then detained.  A witness stated she heard a shot come from the 200th block of Dinkins Street just a moment ago. The neighbor was spoken to and he stated he and friends were having a get together at his residence when the suspect came outside, aimed the gun at the ground in his direction and shot the ground. The neighbor stated he had the police called while also yelling at Edwards for what he was doing. Another witness was at the party and stated he witnessed the same as the neighbor.
