Meet the new County Deputy Administrator

Posted

Born and raised in Clarendon County, Sharmane Anderson grew up in the Browntown Community. Growing up, education was important in her household. Anderson proved this after graduating from Manning High School and going on to graduate first from Francis Marion with her Bachelor of Arts in 2004, then on to Clemson University with a Masters of Science in Youth Development Leadership in 2013. Anderson was not done yet and in 2018, she completed her degree in Juris Doctor at the Charleston School of Law.

On Dec. 16, Anderson had her first day in her new role of Clarendon County Deputy Administrator. Before being selected for this position, Anderson worked for the State of Missouri as an Administrative Hearing Officer and prior to that, she worked in the private sector at a law firm in Columbia, South Carolina. Anderson also spent several years at Clarendon Behavioral Health Services under the leadership of Ann Kirven, as well as a few years at the South Carolina Department of Alcohol and Drug Abuse Services as a FDA Inspector.

When the position for Clarendon County Deputy Administrator became available, Anderson along with several others applied.

Anderson stated, “I applied for the Deputy County Administrator position because I bring a wealth of knowledge from all sectors of the community. My current role through the National Association of Counties allows me to spotlight Clarendon County, where in some instances we are the only county in the state of South Carolina that is represented. I love Clarendon County and all it stands for. The people are second to none and there is nowhere in the world that you can go and not know someone who does great things with roots in Clarendon County. As a citizen, parent, employee, advocate and government representative, I believe Clarendon County is such an amazing place to shop local, think big, and grow smart and what better place to share my talents.”

Anderson has not strayed far from her youth development roots. She coached recreational Junior Varsity and Varsity basketball until last year and still assists local students with college applications and scholarship projects through the ICBD Group. Anderson has also hosted the Teachers Ball and is the founder of a local reading academy.
