Dr. Effie Hilton-Mitchell invites everyone in Clarendon and surrounding counties to join her and the cast of E:Faith Productions to the launch of her newest gospel play.

Hilton-Mitchell is a long-time playwright and has had the pleasure of employing the Weldon Auditorium for three previous plays: Church Folk Done Gone Crazy, Church Folk Fa Real, and The Devil on Trial.

On Jan. 6, 2024, Hilton-Mitchell will host members of the community and prospective patrons at 3 p.m. at Weldon to meet the cast and reveal the title of her latest project. Guests at the launch can also buy tickets for the Apr. 6 performance. Hilton-Mitchell is also encouraging sponsorships from local businesses and residents. The sponsorship levels and what they include are as follows: a $500 sponsorship will include six tickets and special parking, the $250 level includes four tickets and special parking, while the $100 sponsorship includes two tickets to the production and special parking.

Individual tickets can be bought after the launch at Weldon for $30 each and for $35 at the door on the evening of the event.

While Hilton-Mitchell is reserving the announcement of the title of her newest endeavor for the launch party, she did reveal plot and character details. The story is laid out between two major scenes, located in a home and at a church, and includes gospel music. Audiences will follow five characters while they navigate the return of Jesus Christ, the rapture. These characters include Mama Rosa, a voice of wisdom, played by Doris Wright and Deacon Perry, played by De’metrius Jackson. Marylin Kelly acts as a “mean usher,” while father son duo, Cory Thompson and Cory Thompson, Jr. round out the main cast as a doctor and a disrespectful teenager.

Hilton-Mitchell’s ambition as a playwright is take God’s word and message “all around the world.” This play is her latest attempt to achieve the mission that she believes God sent directly to her in a vision.

Hilton-Mitchell explains, “Why he chose me, I don’t know. But I’m willing.”
