Cadaver dog searching woods on Tearcoat Road

A K-9 search and rescue team is currently assisting the Clarendon County Sheriff's Office in the investigation of a site on Tearcoat Road in Alcolu where skeletal remains were found on Sunday morning. According to Maj. Kipp Coker, a man hunting snakes with his daughter found the remains about 10:45 a.m. about 75 feet into a wooded area past the 4000 block of Tearcoat Road. "They did not find a full skeleton," Coker said. "We are out here today to find any other parts, clothing or anything that can help us identify the deceased." Jorga, a Dutch shepherd search dog with I&I International K-9 SAR Team, discovered more bone matter - ribs and bones - in her first five minutes of searching. Coker said he didn't want to speculate about the identity of the remains, but said his office had requested the dental records of Claretha Epps McLeod from Florence. McLeod, who would've turned 80 on June 3, disappeared from near her New Zion home Jan. 30, 2009.
