Three people have been arrested in connection with a Feb. 16 shooting on Reardon Street in Manning, according to Manning Police Chief Sean Briley.
Ahmahd Deanthony Canty, Melvin Jefferson Walker Jr., and Dominic Javon White have each been charged with assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature (ABHAN), possession of a weapon during a violent crime, and conspiracy, Briley said.
The shooting occurred around 7 p.m. Feb. 16 in the area of Reardon St. between Depot St. and Dickson St., where officers responded after reports of multiple gunshots.
When law enforcement arrived, an adult woman was found in the roadway on Reardon Street suffering from a gunshot injury. Emergency medical services transported the victim to McLeod Health Clarendon for treatment.
Witnesses in the area reported hearing numerous gunshots and a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed toward Depot St. One neighbor told officers she had spoken with the woman moments before the shooting as she walked past her home and then heard the gunfire shortly after going inside.
During the investigation, officers recovered 13 shell casings along Reardon St., which were collected as evidence.
All three suspects face the same charges. Assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature, commonly referred to as ABHAN, is a felony in South Carolina involving a violent injury to another person that results in great bodily harm or uses means likely to cause death or serious injury. The charge carries a potential penalty of up to 20 years in prison.
Briley credited the department’s new joint gang unit and partner agencies for their work on the case.
“This case shows what can happen when agencies work together,” Briley said. “Huge props to our new joint gang unit and special thanks to the Clarendon County Sheriff’s Office and SLED. While we’ve added new technology that helped in this investigation, the majority of this was still good old-fashioned police work. This joint gang unit has really hit the ground running.”
Briley added that local law enforcement will continue using every available resource to prevent and solve crimes in the community.
