A correctional officer at Perry Correctional Institution has been charged in connection with an alleged contraband scheme involving inmates at Turbeville Correctional Institution, according to the South Carolina Department of Corrections.
Kimberly Ann Christopher, 42, of Iva, was charged with providing prisoners with contraband and misconduct in office, the SCDC Inspector General announced Wednesday.
According to SCDC, the charges stem from allegations that Christopher, while employed as a correctional officer at Perry Correctional Institution in Greenville County, knowingly used Cash App to send money to multiple inmates incarcerated at Turbeville Correctional Institution between May 2024 and October 2025.
Arrest warrant affidavits state the transactions were allegedly made at the request and direction of Christopher’s husband, who is an inmate housed at Turbeville CI. The warrants allege Christopher’s actions amounted to furnishing prohibited items to inmates without lawful authority.
SCDC said the case involves “moving money and contraband with inmates at Turbeville CI.” The agency did not release additional details Wednesday about what specific contraband items may have been involved beyond the alleged financial transfers.
Christopher was arrested Mar. 9, according to copies of the warrants included with the release. The warrants were issued out of Greenville County Magistrate Court.
In its statement, the Department of Corrections noted that, following an arrest, the burden remains on the state to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt in court.
The case remains pending.
