A key to Manning was presented on Dec. 15, 2023 to Janette Miller Hilton, who has served Wateree Community Actions, Inc. for more than 50 years.
Jannette Miller Hilton has dedicated 53 years to a career at Wateree Community Actions, Inc. in our community; and she has announced her plans to retire and is being honored by friends and co-workers, who are deeply appreciative of her many contributions to the community through the years; and she was hired as a bus driver and teacher assistant for the Head Start program in Clarendon County in 1970 until the merger of Clarendon County Office of Economic Opportunity with Sumter County Office of Economic Opportunity.
She was promoted from Secretary to the Center Manager in 1985 to Family Service Worker in the Head Start, Early Head Start and Migrant Head Start Programs administered by Wateree Community Actions, Inc.
Ms. Hilton’s inspiration was to serve pre-school children from economically and/or socially challenged families by allowing them to explore new horizons in order to step into their rightful places among society.
Now Therefore, I, Julia A. Nelson, Mayor of the City of Manning, express to Ms. Jannette Miller Hilton our deepest gratitude for her countless contributions and exemplary service to our community.
