Saints defeat Providence Athletic Club in Jamboree

The Clarendon Hall varsity Saints traveled Friday night to Jefferson David Academy for Jamboree play against Providence Athletic Club of Columbia. The Saints came away with a 30-0 victory, opening up the scoring on the third play from a line of scrimmage as Tyrese Mitchum rushed from 50 yards out for a touchdown. Dylan Way added the two-point conversion with a three-yard run. On the next series of downs, Tyrese Mitchup intercepted Providence Athletic Club's quarterback and returning the ball for 30 yards. On third down, Way, the Saints' quarterback, completed a pass to Zyan Gilmore for 61 yards for a touchdown. Bobby Ashba added the two-point conversion to bring the score to 16-0. After turnovers on downs for each team, the Saints took the ball over on the Providence Athletic Club 32-yard line. After a couple of rushes, the Saints were at the seven-yard line with a first down. Way connected with Ashba with a seven-yard touchdown pass. The two-point conversion was good on a rush by Wells Robinson to make the score 24-0. With time running down, PAC's quarterback dropped the ball while scrambling, and Way picked up the fumble and raced 83 yards for the final touchdown as the clock expired. Ashba led the Saints on defense with eight tackles, while Carson Cumbee and Stephen Henning had five tackles each. On defense, Mitchup had three rushes for 61 yards, and Robinson had five rushes for 42 yards. Way was 2-4 passing with 68 yards. The Saints will take on Cathedral Academy at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Robinson Field in Summerton.
