Thank you for making Health Fair a success

On Saturday, July 29, the Lake Marion Artisans Gallery and the Clarendon School District 1 Community Resource Center held a Health Fair for the residents of Summerton and surrounding areas. This was our first endeavor with a Health Fair, and we were absolutely amazed at the turnout. Even though it was a muggy, rainy day, we had more than 100 people - adults and children - plus representatives from more than 20 area organizations dedicated to the health and well-being of our community. Thank you, Manning Times and ManningLive for doing such a great job of promoting this event. We truly believe you were an important part of the success of this effort. You publicized our efforts several times and helped get the word out most effectively. We are grateful! We would also like to all of our generous donors, including Clarendon School District 1 for allowing us to use their Community Resource Center for the fair and for providing lunch for our exhibitors and workers. We would also like to thank Walmart Vision Center, who provided free vision testing; and HopeHealth, who gave free screenings for diabetes, high blood pressure and weight issues. HopeHealth also provided cholesterol testing for $5 per person, but participants received the tests themselves at no charge due to donations from Short Trip convenience stores, the Bank of Clarendon, First Citizens Bank of Summerton, Clarendon Women's Shelter, GranmaPet's Needled Wool Sculptures, Kathleen Lawson Gibson and the Stuart Foster family. Agape Hospice provided bottled water, fresh fruit and cookies for attendees and exhibitors, while the Goat Island Restaurant gave us a discounted price on our signs. The ladies of St. Matthias Episcopal Church made muffins for everyone. We were just overwhelmed by the generosity of our community. Thank you for your very significant part in making this important event so successful. We truly appreciate it. SUMMERTON HEALTH FAIR COMMITTEE Kathleen L. Gibson Marlise Guillerault Nancy P. Foster
