A 42-year-old Summerton man was killed Thursday afternoon in a one-vehicle wreck near Alcolu.
Clarendon County Deputy Coroner Bucky Mock said Willie Smythe of Summerton was pronounced dead at McLeod Health Clarendon shortly after the wreck, which happened about 2:05 p.m. Thursday on U.S. 521, about a mile north of Ridge Drive.
Lance Cpl. Judd Jones with the S.C. Highway Patrol said that Smythe was driving a 2015 Nissan pickup truck south and went off the roadway and struck a utility pole.
He was wearing a seatbelt.
