First responders are just starting to clear traffic from a wreck that happened about 5:40 a.m. Friday on Interstate 95 which took the life of one man and sent another to McLeod Regional Medical Center.

Deputy Coroner Bucky Mock said the driver of an 18-wheeler with Pennsylvania license plates hit a parked 18-wheeler with North Carolina plates about 5:40 a.m. Friday morning. The wreck closed down the northbound lanes of the interstate near the 119 mile-marker, causing delays on other routes in Clarendon County, including U.S. 521 and U.S. 301.

Mock said the driver's family has yet to be notified, so he is not releasing his identity just yet.

He said the parked tractor trailer had broken down and that its driver was not present.

Early reports indicated that a small vehicle was also involved. Mock refuted this.
