Shelley A. Brooker has 35 years of teaching experience, eight of them with Clarendon School District 2. Currently pursuing a doctorate in special education from Walden University, she has a master’s degree in special education from Walden, a master’s degree in education from Columbia College, a bachelor’s degree in management from the University of Maryland and an associate’s degree in early childhood education from Central Texas College. “The most rewarding part of my career in education is continuing to have the opportunity to collaborate with other scholarly educators,” Brooker said. “After gaining knowledge, I apply the best practices toward supporting students’ academic and social growth.” Brooker is a member of the National Theatre for Children, the Treasure Trove of Conservation Cove, the Wellness Committee, the Accelerated Reader Committee, the reFocus (behavioral modification) Team and the district and school literacy team. “Each committee offers me the opportunity to collaborate with other educators to gain and maintain bet practices for teaching in education,” she said. “The professional membership agencies I have chosen to support are a direct reflection of my attitude toward life.” Brooker said she and her family strive to live lifestyles surrounded by health and fitness. “We as the people on earth must reuse, reduce and recycle,” she said. “Lastly, my goal is to be a lifelong learner.” As for community pursuits, Brooker attends the Golden Chick Spirit Night, which provides proceeds to Manning Primary School. She also supports Relay for Life fundraisers at the school, along with the school’s Spring Fling. “Each of these events are supposed to bring the school and the family closer as they provide opportunities for students and families to interact with district employees,” Brooker said. “I try not to miss an opportunity to join forces with parents and families of District 2.”
