Manning City Council proclaimed April 2 as Kerrie Cribb Day in the city on Monday night during council's regular monthly meeting.

Cribb was diagnosed in May 2015 with a rare and aggressive form of cervical cancer, specifically small-cell neuro-endocrime cancer.

“It’s less than 1 percent of all cervical cancer diagnoses,” Cribb said of the rare illness. “It’s very rare and very aggressive, and it has been devastating on me and my family in the last year.”

Cribb will head to M.D. Anderson in Texas on Sunday to seek further treatment for the illness, which has yet to respond to various forms of chemotherapy and other treatment.

They have set up a page at www.gofundme.com/kerriestrong2 to help in that quest.

“Everyone’s support has just meant so much to me,” Cribb said. “That was set up by some of my best friends. Everyone has just been so great.”

Cribb's pastor, the Rev. Randy Smith of Manning United Methodist Church, accepted the proclamation from Manning Mayor Julia Nelson.

"All of our prayers are with Kerrie during this difficult and challenging time," said Nelson. "I would encourage anyone who doesn't know or hasn't heard Kerrie's story to please pray for her as she makes this trip this weekend."
