Robert Yates "Robby" Hamrick Jr., 70, husband of Jane Marie Pipkin Hamrick, died Tuesday, Dec. 29, 2015, at his home.

Born March 6, 1945, in Shelby, North Carolina, he was a son of the late Robert Yates Hamrick Sr. and Eloise Greene Hamrick. He was a 1963 graduate of Crest High School and attended the University of North Carolina before joining the U.S. Air Force.

A veteran of the Vietnam War, he served as a jet engine mechanic. After returning home, he continued his education and graduated from Appalachian State University. He retired from PPG Industries in Shelby.

He was an active member of the Shelby Amateur Radio Club and served as captain of two APA pool teams in Santee.

He was a member of Sandy Run Baptist Church in Mooresboro, North Carolina, where he served as a deacon and member of the adult choir.

Survivors besides his wife of Manning include a son, James Edward “Jimmy” Hamrick (Betsy) of Brandon, Mississippi; a daughter, Kimberly Hamrick Sisk of Ellenboro, North Carolina; two brothers, Willie Hamrick (Terri) of Cliffside, North Carolina, and Dale Hamrick (Rhonda) of Boiling Springs, North Carolina; and five grandchildren, Zachary and Morgan Sisk, Dorothy, James and Samuel Hamrick.

A celebration of life service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 2, 2016, at Sandy Run Baptist Church, 210 E. Church St. in Mooresboro.

Visitation will be held an hour prior to the service in the sanctuary of the church.
