Fidelity Lodge honors Julian Gamble for 70 years with Masons

Julian Gamble of Turbeville was the charter worshipful master for Fidelity Masonic Lodge No. 394. He was recognized Feb. 14 for 70 years, and given a pin for that amount of time, along with an etched-glass plaque, by the lodge’s current membership. Gamble said he was serving overseas in World War II when he found out he would be elevated to the “sublime degree of master mason.” Gamble is the only Fidelity charter member still living, and he said he and fellow charter members “enjoyed building this lodge.” He said members would sign a bank note, and then pay it off themselves so that the lodge wouldn’t owe any money. He said he’s proud to be a Mason, and that the group is “not as secretive as people think. There are a few things we keep secret so we can recognize each other. We are called upon to know one another so that if we see a brother stepping out of line, we can correct him. But that’s about it for secrecy.”
