William Nathaniel Gamble

NEW ZION - William Nathaniel Gamble, 85, widower of Albertha "Tee" McCray Gamble, died Thursday, Oct. 16, 2014, at Clarendon Memorial Hospital in Manning.
Born May 1, 1929, in Turbeville, Bill was a son of the late Charlie "Buck" James Gamble and Edna Woods Gamble.  He was a member of Hickory Grove Baptist Church. He attended Melina Parochial School. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was honorably discharged as a sergeant, receiving a Bronze Star and other accolades.
He was preceded in death by three siblings, Charlie James Gamble Jr. and Pellman and Ponzella Gamble; and a daughter, Wanda Farrell.
Survivors include three daughters, Linda J. Gamble, Wanda (Joe) Dickerson and Janet McCoy; three son, Gary (Mona) Rush, James Allen (Alma) Rush and Audrey Rush; a brother, John A. "Buddy" Gamble; seven sisters, Saretter Witherspoon, Edna McFadden, Chars (Charles) Kennedy, Betty (Thomas) Rose, Agnes (Jerry) Greene, Minnie Hill and Alphenia (Roger) Dukes; a brother-in-law, Elmore McCray; two sisters-in-law: Mary E. Graham and Rose E. McKenzie; 23 grandchildren; and 35 great grandchildren.
Wake services for William Nathaniel Gamble will be held from 6-7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 24 in the Hayes F. and LaNelle J. Samuels Sr. Memorial Chapel, 114 N. Church St. in Manning.
Celebratory services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 25, 2014, at Hickory Grove Freewill Baptist Church, 1148 Old Manning Road in Turbeville. Elder Ronnie McFadden, pastor, will officiate. Elder Willie Witherspoon and Pastor Jerry Greene will assist.
Burial will follow in the churchyard cemetery.
He will lie in repose for an hour prior to funeral time.
