A 45-year-old Manning woman was charged Oct. 7 with improper use of 911 and interfering with law enforcement officers after allegedly reporting a nonexistent house fire to dispatchers.

Janice Darlene Tilton of 110 Allendale St. was charged about 10:40 p.m. after allegedly dialing 911 with another man’s phone and claiming a neighbor’s home was on fire. The man told police that he and the woman were frustrated with an ongoing feud with the neighbor.

Private 1st Class W.B. Secrist II told the woman that “the use of 911 is not a joke or a game,” saying that an abundance of Manning firefighters and police officers came to the scene. He reported the prank could cost up to $12 per responder, or about $200.
