Road closed near refuge

Santee National Wildlife Refuge Manager Marc Epstein said there has been some confusion on how to get to the refuge's Visitor's Center since the closure in late September of a main route there by the state Department of Transportation. U.S. 301 was closed near Nelsons Ferry Road Sept. 23 for a pipe replacement. DOT estimates the road will reopen Nov. 28. "The only way to get here right now is to get off at Exit 102 on Interstate 95, and then there's a sign for the detour as well as a sign for you to continue to the refuge," Epstein said Wednesday. He said visitors may also get in "the back way." "They can come back on Oak Road to Dingle Pond Road and get in that way," Epstein said.
