Women of Main Street: Rosalind Jones

Posted
EDITOR’S NOTE: Rosalind Jones, owner of Global Clinical Trial Consultants, is one of nearly 100 women that will be honored Sept. 23 by Main Street Manning. We will be featuring all women who completed a survey related to their businesses on manninglive.com throughout September, and will also feature a select few in The Manning Times each week. Growing up on the south side of Chicago, Rosalind Jones was tired of the Midwest winters by the time she entered college. She chose Southern University in New Orleans to be a bit warmer during the school year. “My father influenced and enhanced my passion for science,” said Jones, who founded Global Clinical Trial Consultants in 2012. “He was a researcher at Northwestern University, and my interest culminated from his passion. His advice and guidance motivated me to excel in research, which is an area that not many women choose as a career choice.” Jones says she has personally experienced the benefits of scientific research firsthand. “I have a sister who is in remission from sickle cell anemia; she underwent a bone marrow transplant in 2010, and continues to thrive in remission due to the work researchers and subjects have contributed to finding a cure.” Jones says her greatest challenge is finding testing subjects. “Due to past infamous scientific flubs, clinical research carries a stigma. Therefore, the seemingly simple tasks of helping the general public understand the benefits, as well as risk to clinical research, become an uphill battle,” she said. “The misinformation that comes with research often leads to skepticism.” She tries to relay to subjects and the community how important clinical testing is. “Tested items include the medicines you take, the food you eat, the car you drive, and the materials that were used to build your house,” she said. “Therefore, when the idea of research is put into perspective, we realize that clinical research is not only important, it is necessary to help allev iate/cure ailments in the human body.”
