Margaret Smith, 88, died Saturday, June 28, 2014, at Sumter Health and Rehab.
Born Nov. 22, 1925, in Alcolu, she was raised by her uncle and aunt, Henry and Estell Webb Smith. She attended public schools in Durham, N.C., and graduated from Hillside High School. She was employed with Washington Hospital Center for 33 years before retiring in 1991.
Survivors include a son, Bobby Lee Smith of Sumter; a daughter, Barbara Jean Butler of Manhattan, N.Y.; two granddaughters, Wanda (Gregory) Dorsey and Rhodia Smith; two grandsons, Tyrone Williams and Mourice Williams, all of Washington, D.C.; a special niece, Margaret (Alexander) Wickerson of Upstate New York; and a special cousin, Mary Theus of Alcolu.
Celebratory services for Margaret Smith were held Thursday, July 3, 2014, at LaNelle J. Samuels Sr. Memorial Chapel, 114 N. Church St. in Manning, with the Rev. Dr. Franklin Colclough Sr. officiating and the Rev. Jonathan Anderson assisting. Burial followed in Westminister Church cemetery in Alcolu.
The family received friends at the home of Mary C. Theus, 1251 Goward Road in Alcolu.
