STOKES PERFORMANCE EVALUATION. JOB SUMMARY – Manages and directs the organization toward its primary objectives. Establishes current and long-range objectives, plans and policies, subject to the approval by the Governing Body. Dispenses advice, guidance, direction and authorization to carry out major plans and procedures, consistent with established policies and Governing Body approval. Oversees the adequacy and soundness of the organization’s financial structure. Reviews operating results of the organization, compares them to established objectives, and takes steps to ensure that appropriate measures are taken to correct unsatisfactory results. Represents the organization with major customers, shareholders, the financial community and the public. Stokes was graded in the following categories using the following system: E – exceeds the standards; M – meets the standards; or NI – Needs improvement. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES • Develops and submits to the Governing Body for approval a plan of organization for the conduct of the hospital and recommends changes when necessary – E. • Ensures maintenance of the physical properties in good and safe state of repair and operation – E. • Supervises the business affairs of the healthcare system to ensure that funds are collected and expended to the best possible advantage – E. • Presents to the Governing Body, and/or its committees, periodic reports reflecting the services and financial activities of the healthcare system and such special reports as may be required by the Governing Body – E. • Prepares and plans for the achievement of the healthcare system’s specific objectives and mutually established goals and periodically reviews and evaluates any such plan, which shall at all times reflect the healthcare system’s mission statement and be in accordance with the ethics and goals of the healthcare system – E. • Attends all meetings of the Governing Body and its committees as required – E. • Performs other duties that may be necessary or in the best interest of the healthcare system – E. • Responsible for all aspects of the operation of the hospital, long-term care division and community services division of the healthcare system, including physician’s offices, Home Health, EMS, transport services, etc. – M. • Implements all policies established by the Governing Body, advises during the formation of such policies and reports on the implementation of such policies to the Governing Body – M. • Causes an annual budget to be prepared showing the expected revenue and expenditures as required by the Governing Body – M. • Acts as a liaison between the healthcare system and the medical staff and represents the healthcare system at external functions – M. • Ensures that the healthcare system maintains accreditation, licensing and quality patient care through the establishment of performance improvement monitoring programs and standards – M. • Selects, employs, controls and discharges personnel and develops and maintains personnel policies and practices for the healthcare system – NI. PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS • Works at maintaining a good rapport and cooperative working relationship with physicians, departments and staff – E. • Represents the organization in a positive and professional manner – E. • Attends committee, CQI* and management meeting as appropriate – E. • Effectively and consistently communicates administrative directives to personnel and encourages interactive departmental meetings and discussions – E. • Communicates the mission, ethics and goals of the facility, as well as focus statement of the department – E. • Adheres to dress code; appearance is neat and clean – M. • Completes annual education requirements – M. • Maintains regulatory requirements, including all state, federal and DNV** regulations – M. • Maintains and ensures patient confidentiality at all times – M. • Reports to work on time as scheduled – M. • Wears identification while on duty – M. • Attends annual review and performs departmental in-services – M. • Resolves personnel concerns at the departmental level, utilizing the grievance process as required – M. • Ensures compliance with policies and procedures regarding department operations, fire, safety and infection control – M. • Complies with all organizational policies regarding ethical business practices – M. REGULATORY REQUIREMENTS. Recent experience as administrator of an acute hospital. Preferred master’s degree in healthcare administration or related field. FACHE-preferred. Financial expertise in hospital fiscal management. Ability to work cooperative with physicians. Language skills – able to communicate effectively in English, both verbal and in writing. Additional languages preferred. Basic computer knowledge.
