Summerton residents make complaints against vacuum salesman

Two separate Summerton residents have filed complaints with the Clarendon County Sheriff's Office alleging their bank cards were used to fraudulently obtain cell phone services and credit cards in the name of a man who sold both of them vacuum cleaners the week before. A 61-year-old woman living in the 1200 block of Scott Lake Road in Summerton told deputies about 4:55 p.m. May 13 that she received a call from a Barclay Bank wanting to verify the information of the man trying to get a credit card in the woman's name. The woman told deputies the man had come by her home saying he worked for Roberts and Associates Inc. out of West Columbia on May 6, and that she purchased a Kirby vacuum cleaner from the man. A 77-year-Old man living in the 1200 block of Cooper Lane in Summerton told deputies the day before that the same man and another unidentified man came to his home and sold him a vacuum cleaner on May 6.
