‘Tis the season for giving at WTC

Posted

Williamsburg Technical College students, faculty and staff joined together this Christmas season to give back to the community. The Health Science department kicked-off the season of giving with a community coat drive. They collected over 60 coats in just a matter of a few weeks. They had a wide variety of sizes available from infants to adult 4XL. Longstreet Laundry graciously washed all of the donated coats to ensure that each coat was clean and ready for its next owner. On Nov. 30, the public was invited to come and select a coat at no cost, and with no questions asked. All coats were claimed in just an hour and half to very appreciative citizens.

The second opportunity for giving was a canned food drive. For a little over a month, students, faculty and staff were asked to bring in canned goods and other non-perishable items to donate to the Felician Center Food Pantry. On Dec. 5, two full car loads containing over 1,000 canned goods plus many other boxed items such as pastas, rice, and more were delivered to the food pantry to help feed local families this holiday season.

The third organization that received support from the WTC network was Ryelei’s Rescues. Ryelei’s Rescues is a non-profit organization pet shelter that also handles the medical care and treatment of lost or abandoned animals. All funds donated to the organization go towards the care and treatment of the animals. Collectively, students, faculty and staff raised over one-thousand dollars and gifted it to

Ryelei’s Rescues to help cover the costs of their operation.

The final option for giving this holiday season was the Williamsburg County Animal Shelter.

Students, faculty and staff collected items such as: dog food, cat food, towels, blankets and more. The shelter serves such a large land mass area that resources are always scarce. Williamsburg Technical College intended to help meet a need that might’ve been overlooked this giving season.

Williamsburg Technical College is committed to serving the community, not only at Christmas but throughout the year. The impact of the college reaches far beyond the classroom.
