A Manning man has been charged with voluntary manslaughter after another man died from injuries suffered during a fight at a Sumter home, authorities said.
Kenneth Cooper, 49, of Sumter, was rendered unconscious during a fight that began as an argument while he was attending a Dec. 21 birthday party at a residence on North Guignard Drive, according to the Sumter Police Department.
Cooper was initially taken to Prisma Health Tuomey hospital and later transferred to a hospital in Columbia, where he died several days later, police said.
Based on autopsy results and information gathered during the investigation, authorities obtained warrants last week for Jawan M. Mack, 29, of Manning. Mack turned himself in Tuesday and is being held at the Sumter County jail. Bond was denied Wednesday morning, police said.
The investigation is ongoing.
The release was approved for media distribution by Chief Russell F. Roark III.
