PUBLIC INTOXICATION

On Aug. 6, an officer with the Manning Police Department was dispatched to McLeod Health Clarendon in the city limits of Manning in reference to a disturbance. The officer arrived on scene and spoke to the complainant. The officer had actually interacted with the subject thirty minutes prior and the subject stated that he needed a ride to Summerton, SC. The subject was intoxicated and was causing a scene at the hospital. The subject stated that he would kill someone at the hospital because of the way he was treated by them. The officer spoke to the hospital staff who stated that the subject just walked in and asked to use the phone. The officer explained to the subject that he could not be taken to Summerton due to the explanation given. The subject stated he needed to go to his sister’s house to collect money from her so he could go to Columbia, SC. The subject also admitted that he had been drinking that day up to that point. The subject then got into an argument with hospital staff. The officer arrested the subject for public intoxication.

 

SHOPLIFTING

On Aug. 2, officers with the Manning Police Department responded to a call from Manning Walmart for a reported shoplifting. While enroute to Walmart, the officers were advised the male has left the business wearing a red shirt and his name was Jimmy Thames. One of the officers spotted Thames walking towards the Manning McDonalds and approached him. Thames was advised Walmart called law enforcement on him about shoplifting and he was already on trespass notice which Thames knows. The officer spoke with the complainant and she advised that Thames had a bag of assorted consumable items but was stopped by the cashier and he did not have the receipt so she kept the bag. The complainant said she saw Thames, she knew he was already on trespass notice, and she saw that he has an item under his arm. The complainant stopped Thames outside the door. He had one big Marketside ham and swiss full sub sandwich under his arm valued at $6.77. Thames gave it back and walked off. When the officer encountered Thames at McDonalds he had one can of Phillips beans and franks in his left rear pants pocket. Thames said he did not have the receipt. Thames was placed under arrest. The other officer returned the can of beans to the business and Thames was placed in a cruiser and transported to the detention center without incident. Thames was charged with shoplifting and with violating his trespass notice.

 

BREACH OF TRUST

On Aug. 2, a detective with the Manning Police Department took a walk in report at the Manning Police Department building in reference to possible breach of trust. The complainant stated a man was supposed to fix her car but took her money instead. The complainant stated that Melvin Walker was given money through CashApp to purchase a starter and a flywheel that totaled $485 plus a $65 tow bill. She stated Walker was supposed to be going to an auto part store to purchase the parts that she sent the money for, but he never did. The complainant stated that she went to the parts store and they told her there were never any parts ordered or picked up by Walker and her car is still not fixed. The record was placed on file.
