LARCENY – ALL OTHER
On July 20, an officer with the Manning Police Department was sent to Family Dollar at 37 Sunset Street in response to a scam report. Upon arrival, an officer spoke with the manager who reported that on July 19, two black males entered the store and stole $2,485 worth of gift cards. The complainant showed the officer video footage which revealed that a black male wearing a white shirt and blue jeans, along with another black male in a white shirt and black pants, were waiting at the register. The male in the white shirt and blue jeans approached the register, passed items to the cashier, and requested an Apple and Gamestop gift card, each valued at $500. The cashier then walked away and the male was seen reaching around the cash register screen, pressing on it, and retrieving the printed receipt. The second black male in the white shirt and black pants then approached the cash register, passed items to the cashier and requested two Netspend gift cards, each valued at $495. After the cashier walked away, the male was seen reaching around the cashier screen, pressing on it, and retrieving the printed receipt. The complainant mentioned that one of the individuals returned to the store and requested a PayPal gift card valued at $495. The video footage showed that this individual pointed the cashier in a direction and as the cashier walked off, the individual turned the cashier screen around, started pressing on it, and retrieved the printed receipt as the cashier returned. The complainant also informed the officer that the Family Dollar in Paxville was targeted by these individuals and the manager there contacted her, leading her to realize that the same individuals had struck her store. The officer assured the complainant that a report would be documented, and all video footage could be emailed.
DISCHARGING A FIREARM INTO A DWELLING
On July 3rd, officers with the Manning City Police Department were dispatched to the 400th block of W Huggins St. in reference to a shots fired call. Once on scene, an officer made contact with the complainant and was advised that a projectile came through his wall and landed inside of his glass cabinet. The complainant advised that he was in his son’s room at the time of the incident but heard several shots from outside. He went on to explain that he came from out of the room to see what was going on and that’s when he saw the hole in the wall along with the projectile.
Another officer arrived on scene and was able to identify several areas outside of the residence that were struck projectiles. There was one bullet hole above the door, one bullet hole on the left side wall of the door, one bullet hole on the right side wall of the front door, and one on the left side of the meter box. Manning units secured the scene and began to process the area. Manning units were able to locate nine .223 caliber shell casings, thirteen .40 caliber shell casings along with one projectile which was located on the roadway and grass area of the road. The projectile was also collected from the china cabinet inside the residence. Shell casings were collected and properly placed in evidence boxes. Pictures were taken of the scene. All shell casings were taken to Manning Police.
ASSAULT – AGGRAVATED/POINTING AND PRESENTING
On July 11th, officers with the Manning City Police were dispatched to Hope Health at 12 W South St. in reference to two males fighting in the parking lot, near a black SUV, and one of the males had a weapon. Upon arrival, an officer made contact with a male subject identified as being Ronald Clavon, 62, and a Security Officer. Clavon advised that his son pulled a pen out on him and threatened him with it while stating, “I’m going to kill you.” Clavon stated that he felt in fear for his life so he then brandished his weapon, a black Hi-point 9mm, and pointed it at his son.
The officer made contact with the son, who was inside the doctor’s office, and he advised that he saw that his dad was pointing the gun at him while he was driving the car. So, he grabbed an ink pen from his pocket for self-defense. The son stated that when they arrived at the doctor’s office and they got out of the car, Clavon had the gun pulled out still and down by his side but then raised it toward him. The officer reviewed the camera footage that points near the area of the incident location and observed the Clavon family car pulling into the parking spot hastily and then parked. The son was seen exiting the vehicle and then walking toward the building, away from the car. He was then called back over to the vehicle, where the argument between he and Clavon continued. The son is seen standing in front of the car when he struck the front bumper with his right foot, then backed up from the car. Clavon is seen raising his gun and aiming it in the direction of his son. The son is then seen approaching Clavon while yelling, Shoot me.”
Security officers are then seen approaching the vehicle to de-escalate the situation and separated the two individuals while staff inside contacted 911. An officer then secured the firearm that was in Clavon’s car and advised Clavon that he was being placed under arrest for pointing and presenting a firearm and then transported him to the Clarendon County Detention Center.
