Clarendon County Sheriff’s Office hosts rescheduled National Night Out

Posted

The Clarendon County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) held its National Night Out event on Tuesday, Sept. 10th, after it was postponed from its original Aug. 6th date due to Hurricane Debby. The event, which ran from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., was a community affair aimed at strengthening ties between law enforcement and residents.

National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie, making neighborhoods safer and more caring places to live. Across the United States, millions of neighbors come together each year to participate in the event, which is typically celebrated on the first Tuesday in August. However, this year, Clarendon County joined the ranks of those needing to reschedule due to weather.

The local event featured a variety of family-friendly activities, including visits with Mateo, the department’s beloved therapy dog. School-aged children received giveaways, and residents had the opportunity to meet and greet members of the CCSO and Clarendon County Fire Rescue.

National Night Out enhances the relationship between neighbors and law enforcement by fostering a sense of unity and safety. In Clarendon County, this goal was met as families enjoyed the chance to interact with deputies and firefighters in a casual and welcoming environment.

National Night Out is celebrated in communities across all 50 states, U.S. territories, and military bases, with events ranging from block parties and festivals to parades, cookouts, and safety demonstrations. The initiative offers a positive way for neighbors to come together under encouraging circumstances, promoting a safer and more connected community.
