Two dead after collision on Plowden Mill Road

Posted

Two men were killed early Sunday morning in a two-vehicle collision in Clarendon County, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol and the Clarendon County Coroner’s Office.

The crash occurred at approximately 12:55 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 28, on Plowden Mill Road at the intersection with Wateree Road, about two miles north of the town of Alcolu, said Master Trooper William Bennett with the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

SCHP stated that a 2014 Dodge Challenger was traveling north on Plowden Mill Road when it struck a 2018 Honda Accord that was stopped across the northbound lane near the intersection.

The Dodge Challenger was occupied by a driver and two passengers. None of the occupants in that vehicle sustained life-threatening injuries, Bennett confirmed.

The Honda Accord had two occupants — a driver and a passenger — both of whom were pronounced dead at the scene as a result of their injuries.

The Clarendon County Coroner’s Office identified the driver of the Honda Accord as Christopher Polite, 36, of Charlotte, North Carolina. The passenger was identified as Anthony Nelson, 45, of Manning.

Autopsies for both men are scheduled to be conducted later this week at the Medical University of South Carolina, according to the coroner’s office.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol is continuing to investigate the collision. No further details were available as of Sunday.
