A 31-year-old Turbeville man has been charged with two felony offenses related to child sexual abuse material following an investigation by the South Carolina Attorney General's Office Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.
South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson announced Monday that Elijah Glenn Robinson was arrested July 30 on charges of sexual exploitation of a minor.
According to investigators, Robinson distributed and possessed files containing child sexual abuse material.
Robinson is charged with one count of second-degree sexual exploitation of a minor, a felony punishable by up to 10 years in prison under S.C. Code § 16-15-405, and one count of third-degree sexual exploitation of a minor, a felony punishable by up to 10 years in prison under S.C. Code § 16-15-410.
Investigators with the Clarendon County Sheriff's Office, which is also a member of the state's Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, assisted with the investigation.
The case will be prosecuted by the South Carolina Attorney General's Office.
Robinson is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
The Attorney General's Office uses the term "child sexual abuse material," or CSAM, because it more accurately describes the abuse depicted in the files. The term has increasingly replaced "child pornography," which can incorrectly imply that a child was a willing participant rather than the victim of abuse.
