An inmate at Turbeville Correctional Institution is facing two criminal charges after authorities say he set prison-issued items on fire and threw bodily fluids on a corrections officer during a 2025 incident at the Clarendon County prison.
According to an April 13 news release from the South Carolina Department of Corrections, David Antonio Little Jr., 36, was charged with second-degree arson and throwing bodily fluids on corrections officers in connection with an incident that occurred Oct. 22, 2025, at Turbeville Correctional Institution.
The release states the charges were among cases that came up for bond hearings in March 2026, when currently incarcerated individuals were served with warrants for alleged criminal offenses separate from internal prison disciplinary matters.
According to arrest warrant affidavits included with the release, investigators allege Little intentionally committed second-degree arson by setting an SCDC uniform and blanket on fire inside his cell at the institution’s Murray Unit. The affidavit states the fire was “without consent and for the purpose of destroying or damaging by fire” the property.
In a separate warrant, Little is accused of willfully and purposefully squirting bodily fluids from a bottle onto a corrections officer during the same incident. The charge is filed under the state law covering the throwing of bodily fluids by a prisoner, detainee or person in custody.
The affidavits state probable cause was based on incident reports, audio/video recordings, video surveillance footage, witness statements and management information notes collected during the SCDC investigation.
SCDC noted in its release that criminal charges filed against inmates are handled in circuit court and are separate from any disciplinary sanctions imposed within the prison system. The agency also reminded the public that all defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
