A former corrections officer at Turbeville Correctional Institution has been arrested on multiple charges, including criminal sexual conduct with an inmate, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, and criminal conspiracy.

Kiefer Ren Gibson, 20, of Manning, is accused of engaging in a sexual relationship with an inmate during her tenure at Turbeville Correctional Institution from September 20, 2023, to October 31, 2023. According to arrest warrants, Gibson also believed at one point that she was pregnant with the inmate's child.

Gibson, who began working with the South Carolina Department of Corrections (SCDC) on August 21, 2023, was fired from her position at Turbeville after the allegations surfaced. The affidavits reveal that Gibson informed another SCDC employee about getting a tattoo of the inmate's name on her body on September 25, 2023.

Further allegations include Gibson bringing over 174 grams of marijuana to the inmate on October 12, 2023. As a result, she faces charges of criminal sexual conduct, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, and criminal conspiracy.

Following her dismissal from Turbeville, Gibson was employed at the Kirkland Reception and Evaluation Center but was terminated from that position after her arrest.

The investigation continues as the South Carolina Department of Corrections works to address the serious breach of conduct within its facilities.
