Whitney Phillips and William Putman have formed an official partnership for a produce stand starting in April 2022. This stand will be located at Stuckey’s in Summerton, South Carolina. The location of the stand is next to the Tesla chargers at the gas station. Phillips assisted Putman in the opening of the produce stand in 2021, which started in June and ended in September.
The first year of the stand was very successful and allowed both Phillips and Putman to see what worked best for the success of the stand for the following years.
Growing up, Putman and Phillips were involved and exposed to the agricultural aspect of produce.
“I’ve been around it, but I’ve never had my own produce stand before,” said Phillips.
The produce stand will be open on Thursday from 12 to 6 p.m., Friday from 8 to 6 p.m., and Saturday from 8 to 5 p.m.
The stand will begin selling strawberries and other seasonal fruits and vegetables. All fruits and vegetables come from Clarendon County farmers, the surrounding area and farmers’ markets, such as Richburg Farm, Dorr Farms, Hickory Bluff Farm, Shuler Farms, and any other local gardeners who have produce for sale. The goal is for the produce stand to open every spring, summer and early fall, with the intention of it someday becoming a yearly stand that provides the community with fresh and delicious produce all year round.
“I’m looking forward to being able to provide fresh fruits and vegetables every weekend right here in town for both locals and those who are traveling through,” Phillips said when asked what she enjoys most about the produce stand’s opening.
“The convenience of getting fresh fruits and vegetables in Summerton since there is no grocery store in town.”
Phillips is searching for anyone interested in a part-time position working for the produce stand. They can contact 803- 460-9379 for more information.
