Shots fired into Manning apartment, six occupants escape injury

Posted

Manning police and Clarendon County deputies are investigating after multiple gunshots were fired into an occupied apartment late Saturday night, damaging walls and a television but leaving six occupants — including two juveniles — unharmed.

According to an incident report, officers responded shortly after 10:24 p.m. to the rear of Manning Gardens Apartments after a resident reported hearing gunshots near Building 20. When officers arrived, they found several bullet holes on the exterior “B side” wall of an apartment and additional holes inside the living room and ceiling. Damaged property was estimated at $5,750.

Inside the apartment, officers found an adult resident and two juveniles who said they had been in the living room when the shots came through the wall. The children were described as highly agitated but not physically injured. The adult resident told officers she did not know who would have targeted the apartment.

Officers then checked a neighboring unit, where another resident said she had been sitting on her couch when a bullet came through her window and struck her television. She was not hurt.

As officers cleared the area, two additional adult occupants returned to the building. One told officers she had been walking toward the apartment when she heard multiple shots and saw bullet holes on the exterior wall. Another said she was approaching the building and encountered a distressed juvenile near the door before the scene became chaotic.

Police documented several shell casings behind the building. The casings were collected as evidence, and officers reviewed body-camera footage as part of the investigation.

No suspect has been identified.
