Plans released for viewing of Senator's body at State House

The S.C. Department of Public Safety has announced the following logistic and parking plans for the viewing of the late Sen. Clementa Pinckney at the State House starting Wednesday. Visitors should assemble outside the Northeast visitors' entrance. All visitors must proceed through the security checkpoint inside the entrance, and must sign a registry. From there, visitors will file up the Westside staircase for viewing. BPS will maintain a continual flow of the line, and visitors will proceed back down the Eastside staircase and out the Northeast doors. The Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism and other law enforcement agencies, will be on hand to assist the orderly flow of foot traffic into and out of the State House. ** No photographs or videotaping will be allowed inside the Statehouse during the viewing;

** Water will be provided to those standing in line outside to help prevent any heat-related issues; ** Visitors are advised to leave backpacks, electronics and other metal items in their vehicles to ensure a smooth flow through the security process; ** Due to the viewing, regular Statehouse tours will be suspended throughout the day tomorrow. There will be parking available at surrounding city garages, including Park Street garage (Park and Senate); Lady Street garage; and metered parking on Assembly Street and Sumter Streets.
