Manning man sought in connection to Sumter homicide

Sumter Police are seeking the public’s help locating a Manning man who may have information related to a fatal shooting Tuesday in Sumter.

According to the Sumter Police Department, officers are attempting to locate Vishawn Montrie Witherspoon, 20, of Manning, as they continue investigating the shooting.

Police said the incident occurred around 5:30 p.m. inside a residence on North Magnolia Street and is considered isolated and related to a domestic dispute.

Officers found Williams O’Neil Jr., 23, of Boulevard Road, wounded at the scene. He was transported to Prisma Health Tuomey Hospital, where he later died.

The Sumter County Coroner’s Office has notified family members and scheduled an autopsy for this week.

Police said two other people suffered minor injuries and were treated.

Authorities have not announced any charges and said details remain limited as investigators work to determine the circumstances leading up to the shooting and identify those involved.
