Manning Lions Club make visits to local head start schools to give vision exams

Posted

At the beginning of each school year, the Manning Lions and other Clubs in the area travel to the Head Start schools to perform vision screenings for their students.  The “spot camera” can detect a variety of vision problems in a matter of seconds.  When a problem is detected, the school administrator informs the child’s parent for referral to an eye doctor.  If the family cannot afford the exam and glasses, South Carolina’s Lions Vision Services may be able to cover the costs.  Shown here are Lions Joe McNeil operating the camera and Jim Boykin giving each child a lion sticker at the Fleming/Felder Head Start in Alcolu.  Good vision is critical to learning.
