Clarendon County Administration has launched a new social media campaign titled “Meet Your County Government” as part of its efforts to provide residents with a behind-the-scenes look at the departments that help keep the county running smoothly. The monthly series, officially named “Clarendon County Government: Inside Look,” aims to showcase the vital work of various county departments, beginning with the team at Santee-Cooper Regional Airport.

The campaign kicked off on August 31st, with a post introducing the series and emphasizing the county’s commitment to recognizing the essential work that the various departments provide within the county’s operations. “From emergency services to community services, each department plays a very important role in making our county a great place to live and work,” the post stated. The goal is to familiarize residents with the people and services working behind the scenes to ensure the county runs efficiently.

On September 1st, the first department spotlight focused on the Airport Management team. The post detailed the role of the Santee-Cooper Regional Airport in Clarendon County’s aviation growth and economic development. The airport, located near Lake Santee, serves not only as a hub for air transportation but also for recreational and corporate activities. Over the past five years, the airport has secured over $5 million in grants from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the South Carolina Aeronautics Commission to fund improvements such as runway reconstruction, terminal expansion, and safety upgrades.

Recent improvements to the airport include new electric gates, LED lighting on taxiways and runways, and a dog park for visiting pilots and their pets. Looking ahead, the airport’s five-year plan includes additional upgrades such as terminal renovations to meet ADA standards.

The airport will also host its inaugural “High-Flying Festival” on October 19, 2024, offering an opportunity for the community to explore the airport’s services up close.

The “Meet Your County Government” campaign will continue with monthly spotlights on the different county departments, their purposes, efforts, and upcoming events. Residents can follow Clarendon County Administration on Facebook for more information.
