The King Kat Tournament Trail held its first ever Sweet 16 event in Clarendon County on the Santee Cooper Lakes this past weekend (Jan. 26-28). Titled the "Sweet 16," this tournament was designed to bring 16 of the best catfishing anglers in the country to Clarendon County to fish for a first place prize worth over $10,000. Live weigh-ins were held each day at Palmetto Shores RV Resort where tournament staff and anglers rested and held captains meetings.
Teams were pitted against each other in a bracket-style showdown beginning on Thursday. Rough weather conditions proved to be tough for fishing during Day 1 where weights topped out at just over 67 lbs for a three-catfish limit.
However, anglers benefited from their experience during Day 1 and better weather conditions to put on a show for "Big Fish Friday." Husband and wife duo, Joe and Demetria Westbrook, reeled in the tournament's biggest fish at 54.31 lbs and a Day 2 total of 112.1 lbs.
Team Westbrook stuck to their tactics and continued their success in the championship round, landing 94.57 lbs of catfish on their way to Sweet 16 Champion.
In total, the three-day tournament weighed in over 600 lbs of catfish and produced a lot of exposure for Clarendon County through live broadcasts, on-site podcasts, business highlights and overall tournament coverage.
