The friendly Battle of the Cans may be over, but the Clarendon County Junior Chamber and Manning Rotary Club weren’t quite finished filling local shelves.
After the competition ended, Junior Chamber President Steven Prebish continued working to secure a pallet of canned goods for Manning United Ministries. The two organizations ultimately partnered to purchase 2,000 pounds of assorted canned goods from McCall Farms, which were recently delivered to the food bank.
The additional donation follows a little more than two weeks of competition between the organizations. The Junior Chamber collected 1,997 nonperishable items during the Battle of the Cans, while Manning Rotary collected 1,735, for a combined 3,732 items.
Those donations were distributed among United Ministries, Well Watered Ministries, The Care Cottage, The Salvation Army and Vision by Design.
The latest delivery gave the groups another opportunity to build on the success of the drive, this time working together rather than competing.
“After a fun contest with our friends at Manning Rotary, we decided to partner to make one more donation to Manning United Ministries,” the Junior Chamber shared. “We are thrilled with the outcome of the Battle of the Cans and more importantly, the turnout our community made to make sure our food banks were stocked.”
The 2,000-pound delivery brings the Battle of the Cans effort to a close with an additional boost for a local organization serving families in need.
