The Clarendon County School District has named Kimberly O. Johnson as the new director of the F.E. DuBose Career Center for the 2026-27 school year.

A Manning native and 1998 graduate of Manning High School, Johnson has served as assistant director of the career center for the past four years. District officials said she will now lead the school as it continues preparing students for careers through technical and workforce education.

Before entering education, Johnson served nearly seven years in the military. She earned a bachelor's degree in religious studies from the University of South Carolina in 2006 and a master's degree in social work in 2010. She also holds secondary administration certification through the South Carolina Department of Education.

Johnson previously served as director of marketing for the Bank of Clarendon, where she focused on community engagement and leadership initiatives. She has completed leadership programs through Leadership Clarendon, Leadership South Carolina, Furman University's Diversity Leaders Institute, the South Carolina Bankers School and the American Bankers Association School of Bank Marketing and Management.

She has been active in numerous civic organizations, including the Clarendon County Chamber of Commerce, the former Clarendon School District Two Board of Trustees, the South Carolina School Boards Association, the McLeod Health Clarendon Hospital Advisory Board and United Way. She is also a member of Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church.

In 2020, Johnson became the first African American woman elected to represent South Carolina House District 64, which includes portions of Clarendon and Sumter counties.

District officials said Johnson's experience as assistant director has centered on supporting student achievement and expanding career and technical education opportunities. In her new role, she will oversee the F.E. DuBose Career Center's programs while continuing to focus on preparing students for college and career success.

The district announced Johnson's appointment this week and congratulated her on beginning the new leadership role.
