Group to celebrate 50th anniversary of King's speech in Kingstree

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. spoke in Kingstree 50 years ago on Mother's Day. A celebration of this historic event will take place on the original site, the Tomlinson High School football field, Tomlinson Street in Kingstree, at 3:30 p.m. Sunday. Congressman James Clyburn will be the guest speaker, and King's speech will be played on a big screen. Channel 5's Ann McGill will be the emcee, while Bakari Sellers, an attorney and CNN analysis and former S.C. lawmaker, will be the special guest. An historic marker will be unveiled.
